Here's Looking at You

An internet friend (nerd alert, I know) recently introduced me to a fun internet radio station. http://www.tropicalglen.com/ lets you click on a year and it plays the top 100 hits of that year. Currently, I’m listening to 1982. The number one song of 1982, at least according to this list is “Key Largo” by Bertie Higgins. A sickly sweet ballad of love and loss, “Key Largo” compares the love story of the singer to Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart’s in the movie by the same title. Now, anyone who has seen the movie “Key Largo” knows it wasn’t a love story at all, but a mobster-adventure movie. A weak one at that. I have to wonder if Bertie Higgins even saw the movie “Key Largo” for he quotes the line in his song “here’s looking at you,” which isn’t even from that movie! We all know its from “Casablanca” which starred the lovely Ingrid Bergman opposite Humphrey Bogart. What a love triangle! Well, what do I know anyway? After all, I was only 1 year old when this song came out.

Tasty Taste

Babies must get tired of chugging down bottles of the same old formula day in, day out. They never complain however, and tonight we decided to reward one of them. Kai, specifically because he was awake and being so cute. His eyes were droopy and red rimmed, we could tell he'd be crashing hard tonight. As Michelle had prepared Strawberry Shortcake for dessert, there was a dish of whipped cream and strawberries on the counter.
"Kai, let's see what you think of this!" Elizabeth said, dipping a slim finger into the fluffy white substance. Quickly, she poked her finger into his soft, toothless mouth. A pause. We all leaned in eager to catch his reaction. Silence, only the barely audible sound of Kai's tiny pink tongue considering the new taste he'd just been introduced to. Then suddenly: his eyes widened! A broad smile broke out on his tiny face and light took over his face. I testify that if he hadn't been swaddled tightly in a blanket he would have thrown his arms Heavenward in a halleluja gesture. "So this is why I came to earth!" His blue eyes seemed to say. "Heavenly Father, I understand! I understand the plan! Men are that they might have JOY!! And JOY is whipped cream! Of course!" And you know, its kind of true. I think I'm going to go have some of that strawberry shortcake now.
